Having time to sit...

Last week I underwent an operation. I now have to recuperate for the next 6 weeks.  Yes, SIX weeks of no lifting, no ironing, no digging on the allotment, and no driving.  Idyllic!!

Working full time I have often expressed the thought...I just want to do nothing for a while.  Now I can and without feeling guilty or lazy.

But being enforced to do nothing is not as easy as choosing to do nothing (and knowing that you can get up and do something as soon as you wish)!

So, I am revisiting some of those activities that I have done in the past but often claim I now don't have time for...reading, I have a pile of some twenty books that have been given or lent by friends and family with the intention of keeping me occupied; ....knitting, I purchased a pattern, wool and needles prior to my op and I'm already half way up the back of a jumper (and it is quite good!!);....cross stitch, something I've not done since school but again given with love to keep me occupied;  and now blogging!!

Maybe over the next 6 weeks, I'll even find something interesting to blog about...watch this space!!

Escaping the day to day!

Mr P and I both work more than the average week, with little time for leisure or pleasure.  So every now and then, no, more than that really, we like to escape the day to day and get down and dirty in true 'Good Life' fashion.

Mr P has an allotment that I admire every once in a while to keep him motivated. I now have a greenhouse to start of the things he'll need to plant!

The allotment - beautiful buttercups!
Last year we were greeted by this amazing sight of beautiful buttercups on a bright summer's day, surrounding our reclaimed wicker settee.  (The photo does not show its radiance fully).

Don't just do something...

Saturday 28th May 2011

There is an old saying that says 'Don't just sit there; do something!'.

As I go through life I find myself thinking 'Why?'  As a friend recently put it, I find myself 'wondering' more, what is it all about....?

Maybe some fifteen years ago, being a teacher, I came across the book 'Don't just do something, sit there.'  More and more I think this needs to be the mantra that more of us should make time for.  So much of our time is spent dashing here and there, making lists, doing things, filling every minute of everyday doing something.....

So... Stop...

What are we missing? What is happening around us?
No time to think, reflect and just enjoy the moment.

So my new blog is for that purpose...time to stop, think and make the most of the moment.  Maybe you will too...
